Diversity & Inclusion – Real Estate Early Careers

11th September 2022

As many of our ‘Followers’ know the Gradfeed journey so far has seen us embark on our mission of connecting early talent to opportunity within the UK Real Estate industry. We have therefore had countless conversations, meetings, attended informal and formal gatherings with students through to business owners and boardroom executives across the UK.

Diversity & Inclusion is phrase that has been rightly ever-present in these discussions but one that can often be misinterpreted or misquoted.

The definition of workplace diversity:

Workplace diversity is understanding, accepting, and valuing differences between people including those:

-of different races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, disabilities, and sexual orientations

-with differences in education, personalities, skill sets, experiences, and knowledge bases

What is inclusion?

Inclusion is a collaborative, supportive, and respectful environment that increases the participation and contribution of all employees.

 What is diversity and inclusion?

Diversity and inclusion is a company’s mission, strategies, and practices to support a diverse workplace and leverage the effects of diversity to achieve a competitive business advantage.

With this definition in mind we wanted to highlight a few ways how Gradfeed is assisting your early careers teams in implementing a strategy that will help build a more inclusive and diverse workforce:

Blind recruitment- the Gradfeed platform enables students to upload their personal and professional details and apply for positions in the knowledge that they’ll be on a level playing field. Employers are able to view profiles based on pure credentials rather than name, race, nationality and gender. This should provide a better opportunity to hire the right individual and the strongest student candidate available.

UK-wide university coverage – Gradfeed has access to over 45 Universities (and counting!) throughout the UK. Businesses can therefore reach and market to a wider student audience and not be limited to a handful of universities to help raise awareness of the industry through insightful content.

Non-Cognates – Across our growing university reach, Gradfeed has and is continuing to welcome an increasing number of students from a Non-Cognate background who have a strong interest in the Real Estate and Construction industry. These students can vary from wanting to study a Masters course through to taking on a full-time supported position.

We are continually looking at ways the Gradfeed platform can assist early talent and businesses of all sizes in providing equal access to opportunity. Feedback from employers on the system has been positive towards our approach in helping with their overall business strategy in achieving a more diverse and inclusive workforce from top to bottom.

We always welcome comments and consideration as to how we can assist businesses on their early talent recruitment strategy so please do get in touch if you want to find out how you can join us on our platform.
